I've been trying to crack this for the past week and I still haven't figured it out. I bought this USB 3.0 to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter from CableMatters because I need to connect via Ethernet for college and my laptop does not have an Ethernet port.
My laptop is an Acer Aspire S7-392 9890 and I just upgraded to Windows 10. I have also installed all the up-to-date drivers from their website.
When I plug in the USB 3.0 to Ethernet adapter into my laptop, it brings up the 'Installing new Driver Software' dialog box and installs it. I can see it clearly in the Device Manager (ASIX AX88179 USB 3.0 to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter). Pcouffin Device Driver Windows 10. However, my laptop isn't detecting this an Ethernet connection. Rather, it does absolutely nothing. I could not find an Ethernet or LAN option under the Network Sharing and Center. If I disable Wi-Fi it still won't connect. Is there something I'm doing wrong or can I not do anything?
.Atheros AR812/818 PCI-E Fast Ethernet Controler for Ethernet. I have a Toshiba L755 laptop running Windows 7 so it's very likely yours could be different. These came integrated on my laptop. Maybe you just need a different Ethernet adapter. Windows 10 is just over a month old, so I'm sure there a lot of devices that haven't been upgraded to support 10 yet. ` Let me ask you this. Do you have a good reason for wanting Windows 10?
Personally there's nothing in it that appeals to me. Of course if your school requires it, that's good enough reason.
Click on the link below and it will show you the available drivers for your 'USB 3.0 to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter from CableMatters'. Here's a link to their main driver webpage about the device. You'll note there is NO DRIVER listed for Windows 10 yet. At this point, you could compare the version and date numbers in Device Manager and compare it against the Windows 8.1 version.
If it's not the same, then you might try downloading and installing the Win 8.1 driver and see how it goes. If that doesn't work, then you may need to contact the company and see if an updated driver is coming soon. Hope this helps.
