Hi I recently upgraded to Windows 10 on my x64 PC. I use an EPSON WF-3540.

It worked fine under W8.1. Since upgrading, I have problems with all aspects of printing. The Control Panel 'printers and devices' hangs.

Hitting 'print' causes Word to freeze ('not responding'). I have updated drivers from EPSON's website, these problems continue - the driver package I download here: does not install fully, it stops at 20% every time I try. EPSON's printer finder sees the networked printer and the printer itself works fine as a scanner (using third party software to scan). I have tried the troubleshooter, but that also hangs while checking for Spooler service errors In each case, where it is hanging, the only way to make it stop is to reboot the PC. Any suggestions? *UPDATE* - the second time of downloading that EPSON software linked above, and fourth try at installing completed.

Everything - so far - seems OK. Hi Edge, Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

Issue you have experienced might due to incompatible drivers. I can understand that it must be difficult for you when things are not working as it should. Try these methods if problem still persist now or in future, and check it helps.

Method 1: You may update the Printer driver from Device Manager manually and check if this helps. A) Open run command by pressing Windows key + R and type “devmgmt.msc” (without quotes) and hit Enter.

B) Spot and expand the “Printer Drivers”. Right click on the video driver and select “Update Driver Software”.

Once this is done, restart the computer to check the problem fixed. Method 2: If there no updated drivers available on the computer manufacturer’s website, then trying installing it in compatibility mode.

Compatibility mode runs the program using settings from a previous version of Windows. Follow these steps to install the drivers in compatibility mode and check if that helps.

Download the driver from the manufacturer’s website. Right-click on the driver setup file and click on ‘properties’. Click on the ‘compatibility’ tab and check the box ‘Run this program in compatibility mode for’ and select Windows 8/8.1 operating system from the drop down menu and proceed with the installation. Once this is done, restart the computer and check if the issue persists. Keep us posted if you face any issues on windows in future.

We will be glad to help you. Hi I spoke too soon. The problem has resurfaced, exactly the same symptoms as mentioned in my original post. The fixes above did not work for me. Once again, I cannot print and I cannot access my 'printers and devices' on control panel, as the system hangs. Can you give me any other fixes?

Thanks EDIT: on inspecting the Device Manager, Printers, under 'Events', I have 'Device SWD PRINTENUM WSD-a546a186-8896-45a0-b72c-057008038dab.0068 requires further installation.' This means nothing to me, but perhaps it will to someone.

UPDATE (1): I had a pdf editor (Nitro Pro 10) that had a Word plugin. It turns out that this was not compatible with Windows 10. Uninstalling this and reinstalling the Epson software package has - for the time being - fixed this (again).

After installing Windows 10 on my Surface Pro, I too have problems with the Epson WF-3540; however, it is specific to scanning. I have uninstalled all Epson software, reinstalled, rebooted, all without success. I am able to print. I have set-up the Epson software to be backwards compatible with Windows 8. Upon executing EPSON Scan utility, the application starts but does not run. Windows Task Manager reports EPSON Scan 'Not Responding' and idles around 38% CPU, 9.2MB Memory.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software several times without success. I have run the troubleshooter and reported it to Microsoft. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I recently upgraded to Windows 10.1 and my Epson XP-200 Wireless Printer will not work at all even after downloading the Windows 10.1, 64-bit drivers from the Epson website. I have uninstalled the drivers, and restarted the computer and router no less than 6 times.

The printer WIFI light is on indicating it is getting a signal from the router but it will not print a thing. I keep getting a printer error message from the computer but it doesn't give me any details of the error. I even tried setting up the drivers with a USB cable and that has not worked either. Anyone else out there experience this problem? Would appreciate any tips to resolve the issue. I was finally able to get the printer working with the USB cable but it will still not work wirelessly.

After upgrading to Win 7,would get an' ERROR printing to Epson printer'. After exhausting all possibilities (new, different drivers) and a Youtube Video telling you to print directly to the printer instead of Spooling,it appeared there was a problem with the printer port. Nothing happened when printing directly. Went to Device Manager, select Ports,ECP LPT1,click on Resources, and UNCHECK the Use Automatic Settings Box. Apparently some kind of resource/Int. Rebooted and powercycled the printer several times and it still works.

Printer now works fine in Win 10. It's works, get resolve. Wow, a miracle! I have had both Microsoft & Epson looking into my printer problems since upgrading to Win10. I've even had Epson recommend I fork out £140 on a new 'compatible' printer!! And now Goozzie has solved my problem!

I did wonder about changing the printer port, but was worried as my printer is real and not virtual!! I can print again after feeling like I've been cut off from the world for the last five weeks. Thank goodness I stumbled on this forum.:) Helen Note: my printer is an Epson Stylus Photo R200.
